2017 Summer Farewell: 4 Must-Do’s Before the End of Season

Even though autumn officially begins on September 22nd, the summer vibes are still going strong in Marina del Rey. It could have something to do with the fact that living in paradise tends to blur the lines between seasons! However, there are definitely a few tell-tale signs that remind us another fabulous summer is coming to a close (like Beach Eats 2017 wraps up before too long!). To stave off the farewell-to-summer bummers, we suggest partaking in some of the best summer-inspired to-do’s while you still can!

HERE ARE A FEW TO ADD TO YOUR END-OF-SUMMER AGENDA!

Hit Up the Last Few Beach Eats

Head to Mother’s Beach this Thursday to partake in one of the last Beach Eats of the season! Faves like Canvas Food Truck, Rolln Lobster and Sanook Soi 38 will be there between 5 pm and 9 pm to feed your most delectable cravings. Remember the final 2017 Beach Eats happens September 28th so make a plan to hit them up before the season calls it a day. Check out the schedule here.

Have an End-of-Summer Bonfire at Dockweiler State Beach

There’s no better way to bid farewell to Marina summer nights than a cozy fire-pit bonfire at Dockweiler State Beach.  If you’ve been heading up there all through the summer, you already know the drill — but if not, remember to bring blankets, firewood or charcoal, snacks (s’mores!) and beverages…. and don’t forget to clean up after yourself. Also, be sure to put the bonfire out completely before leaving (Instead of using sand, douse the flames with water and blend with the embers until everything is nice and saturated). They have about 40 fire pits available, but get there early because it’s first-come, first-serve only.

Send Off Summer with a Sunset Cocktail Cruise

We love Hornblower’s charming Summer Sunset Cocktail Cruises — where you can enjoy a sweet two-hour early evening ride, plus free appetizers and gorgeous views for just $37 per person (+ fees).  Thankfully, this summer tradition is in play every Wednesday and Thursday through October, so there’s still plenty of time to come aboard and indulge summer-style.

Get a Last-Taste-of-Summer Ice Cream Treat

Yes, ice cream indulgences are not limited to this particular season — (in fact, a treat a week is highly recommended all year long!) —but there is something about ice cream in the summertime that makes you feel like a kid again. Strolling through Burton Chace Park with a sugar cone filled with some kind of crazy-delicious concoction. Makes you want to skip a little, doesn’t it? Well, with 10 days left of summer, you still have plenty of time to grab a Sprinkleberry™ cone at the sinfully good Cold Stone Creamery (36 W. Washington) and scamper through the park — or order up a scoop from Charly Temmel on the Venice boardwalk. It’s fun, it’s summery and it’s totally encouraged — especially before autumn comes to town!
