November 1st, 2017

There’s a wonderfully crisp November chill in the air that feels like pure fall — and there’s nowhere you’d rather be than out in that refreshing harbor air, breathing it all in. And that goes double when you live in and around Marina del Rey, because there’s always some kind of outdoor fun happening right around town. So, let’s get in the November frame of mind, shall we? Grab some fresh apple cider (perhaps at the farmer’s market?), throw on a light sweater, and head out for some serious season-inspired merriment. To get the fun rolling, here are five must-do Marina-close events that will perk up your fall spirits!

Weekend Concerts at Fishermen’s Village — This Weekend

Get out in that fresh air, put on your boogies shoes and enjoy some great music at Fishermen’s Village between 1 pm and 4 pm. This Saturday, U.S. 99 — an awesome local trio — performs a fun mix of folk, rock, surf, rockabilly, country and blues. Then Sunday, get down to some great dance music from Elements. Flash forward to the following weekend and you can groove to the reggae of IZMSKZM (Saturday Nov 11th) and then enjoy a set by the Susie Hansen Latin Band on Sunday.

ICE in Santa Monica — Starting Today, November 1

(And yep, it’s totally free to attend.) Address: Arizona & 5th Street, Santa Monica.

Mattel® Party on the Pier — November 5

Fun + a great cause = one of the best days ever. Sunday, November 5th, the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital is featuring their 18th annual Party on the Pier in Santa Monica — and as always, it’s an amazing afternoon for all the kiddos in attendance, plus it provides unrestricted funding that goes toward high-priority programs for sick children at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital (and around the world). The event goes all-out with carnival games filled with Mattel toys, meal vouchers and treats, lots of celebrity appearances, the Power of Play Activity Tent’s crafts and activities, unlimited access to super fun rides, a visit from therapy dogs from the UCLA People Animal Connection and more. Adult prices are $150 per person ($115 of that is tax deductible) and for kids aged 3-12, tickets are $75 (with $40 tax deductible). The fun runs from 10 am to 2 pm — don’t miss it! P.S. If you can’t make it but you still want to show your support, donate on the UCLA site.

Taste of Brazil Cruise — November 11

Head down to Dock 52 (13552 Fiji Way) on Saturday, November 11th and board the gargantuan FantaSea One cruise ship for a two-hour, Brazilian-style taste extravaganza! The cool beats of Brazilian music will be the soundtrack to a festive harbor cruise that will feature a fantastic menu, tasty beverages and those gorgeous Marina views. (Menu highlights include Lemon-Garlic Flank Steak, Feijoada-Brazilian stew, kale-mango salad, Cuscuz Branco – a traditional Brazilian pudding, and much more.) Food is included in the ticket price ($59.95 + fee & tax per person) and special Brazilian drinks are available for purchase on-board. Cruise time: 9 pm to 11 pm.

EVO | Vegan — November 11

Peace, vegan food, yoga and hip hop — what a way to spend a Saturday in Marina del Rey! EVO | Vegan LA Festival will be setting up camp at Burton Chace Park on November 11th from 9 am to 5 pm. What can you expect at this cool event? Yoga and pole classes, hip hop dancing with a great DJ, plus lessons about vegan gardening and the visionary permaculture movement. Tickets are $22.09 (including fees) up until November 10th— and if you buy tickets at the event, they’ll be $32.64.
