8 MARINA-CLOSE SPOTS TO GET YOUR VEGGIE FILL FOR NATIONAL VEGETARIAN MONTH

Happy National Vegetarian Month, Marina del Rey! Now is the time to let your veggie love shine and dig into the natural goodness of vegetarian (and vegan) meals. The days of thinking you have to eat traditional meat for protein and satisfaction are long gone — especially when you consider the influx of plant-based proteins that taste amazing and are showing up on menus all over town. Seriously, have you tried the vegan cheese & sausage pizza at Fresh Brothers? SO. GOOD. And that’s only scratching the surface, because our prime locale just happens to be surrounded by some of the best veggie-friendly (and veggie-themed) restaurants on the planet. Yes, it’s time to eat your veggies, kids. Let’s celebrate National Vegetarian Month!

1. PLANT + FOOD + WINE
1009 Abbot Kinney, Venice

Plant + Food + Wine is an experience you don’t want to miss. Gorgeous setting, incredible outdoor patio and some of the most creative and delicious 100% vegan food in the region.

Must Tries: Wild Mushroom Sandwich, raw Heirloom Tomato & Zucchini Lasagna, Kimchi Dumplings and, of course, their insanely good cheesecake.

2. L.A. GASTRONOMY
20 Washington Blvd, Marina del Rey

Aside from just being a cool, little funky spot to check out, L.A. Gastronomy has some fantastic veggie dishes on their menu.

Must Tries: “K-Town” with braised jackfruit, kimchi fried rice, shallots, egg, pickled daikon & gochujang (red chili paste); the vegan “buttermilk” biscuits with gravy (aka: Mallory’s Breakfast); and their Little Italy (their delectable potato gnocchi dish).

3. THE COUNTER
4786 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey

With awesome spots like The Counter, it’s totally acceptable to go to a burger joint for National Vegetarian Month.

Must Tries: Fried Dill Pickles, the Veggie Club, the Sprouted Veggie or a build-your-own vegan veggie burger creation.

4. TOCAYA ORGANICA
1715 Pacific Ave., Venice or 12150 Millennium Dr. #101, Playa Vista

Feeling like some Mexican? Tocaya has you covered for National Vegetarian Month, especially since every entrée comes with your choice of protein (aka: their pea-protein Picadillo).

Must Tries:  The Fajita Burrito, their popular Chop Chop salad or equally yummy Tostado Salad!

5. SAPORI ITALIAN RESTAURANT
13723 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey

Grab a harbor-side table outside and dig into Sapori’s fab vegetarian dishes. They’re delectably prepared and chock full of Italian goodness (you’ll never miss the meat).

Must Tries: The Bruschetta Campagnola, the amazingly good Agnolotti Tartufati (cheese-filled pasta with wild mushrooms in a truffles-butter-sage sauce), and the Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina (which can either be baked with lotsa mozzarella or topped with their rich four-cheese sauce).

6. YARD HOUSE
13455 W. Maxella Ave., Marina del Rey

You could go to Yard House all month long and never get tired of their vegetarian (& vegan) options — because there are so darn many of them! Some are healthy, some are sinful — and all are delicious. Just look for the “V” on the menu.

Must Tries: Crispy Brussels Sprouts & Potatoes; Shitake & Cremini Mushroom Lettuce Wraps; Gardein™ Buffalo Wings (see above – YUM!); and Gardein Mac + Cheese.

7. THAI VEGAN
2928 Washington Blvd, Marina del Rey or 2400 Main Street, Santa Monica

Sometimes, nothing hits the spot like Thai — and Thai Vegan is the perfect low-key spot that will satisfy your cravings for less than $10 per entrée. Also — make sure to check out their soy chicken. People seriously rave about its goodness.

Must Tries: Fresh Vegetable Tofu Roll with Peanut Sauce; Panaeng Red Curry or Yellow Curry; and Vegetable Dumplings.

8. SATDHA PLANT-BASED THAI KITCHEN
2218 Lincoln Blvd., Santa Monica

Another Thai restaurant on the list? Heck yeah — because Satdha is so much more than your typical Thai joint. They’re totally plant-based and while they have your traditional Pad Thai and curries, they also get creative with their cuisine (and it pays off big time). Portions aren’t huge and prices are average — but you’ll love the food.

Must Tries: Snap Pea Thai Salad; the famous Catfish Eggplant (battered catfish with red curry paste and veggies); Beet-Dyed Noodles; their Pad Thai (because it’s amazing); and the Coconut Sticky Rice with Mango for dessert.

Of course, that’s only a sampling of what’s available in and around the Marina — pretty much every restaurant on the harbor has a tempting veggie dish or two on their menu. So, go out and indulge in our area’s incredible vegetarian cuisine. And have a delicious National Vegetarian Month.
