Sunset Magazine Features Marina del Rey in Summer 2013 Edition

Marina del Rey was recently featured as a great summer day trip in the Summer 2013 edition of Sunset Magazine, now on newsstands.  The magazine praised MDR for being “Venice’s lower-key neighbor for waterfront walks, sweet beaches, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.” The article went on to tout the marina’s “largest man-made small-boat harbor in the world,” Mother’s Beach and a range of coastal outdoor activities, including sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and biking.  Local businesses Blue Pacific Boating, Action WatersportsDaniels Bicycle Rentals, Bin 73 and Mendocino Farms also got shout-outs in the article.  It’s always nice to see MDR grab the spotlight, as we all know it is the star of the Westside…but what do you think?  Is Marina del Rey better as a day trip or a 365-days-a-year place to live?

May 14th, 2013 Announces Blog Redesign

Like the community of Marina del Rey, has been experiencing an evolution. Since our launch in December 2010, a lot has happened—the Marina is growing by leaps and bounds; companies are opening up headquarters; farmer’s markets and food truck festivals make regular stops near our shores; hot new restaurants are cropping up left and right.  With this sea of change occurring all around us, we decided the time was right to take a look at our own blog and ask ourselves if we were still in line with our original goals of being a local resource for waterfront living and boating. After months of examination and speaking with some of our followers, we decided that needed a change too.

Happy Birthday Marina Del Rey!

If you live in Marina del Rey, then chances are, you already know there is so much to love about your neighborhood. After all, who could ever tire of the waterfront views, the sunsets, the new restaurants (which seem to be popping up on a monthly basis these days), and the all-around appeal of one of SoCal’s most desirable coastal addresses. That’s why April 10 is such a special day for Marina dwellers—it’s our neighborhoods 48th birthday and that’s reason for a major celebration.

To toast Marina del Rey’s big day today, we thought it would be fun to throw some MDR trivia your way. After dropping one of these five facts into a conversation, your friends will either think you’re really smart or super proud of where you live. A win-win!

Silicon Beach Boom To Bring More Shopping, Restaurants, Amenities to Marina del Rey

If you have ever walked along the wharf at Fisherman’s Village and felt like you were in a time warp—this piece of news is for you: Marina del Rey is about to get a much-needed makeover. The Silicon Beach boom (or as the Los Angeles Business Journal recently put it, “an influx of technology and creative businesses on the Westside”) is fueling major redevelopment in the Marina. Just what kind of development are we talking about?  A rehab of Fisherman’s Village retail center and the Marina West Shopping Center—both of which are due to start construction next year.

Los Angeles Boat Show Opens to Fanfare in Marina Del Rey

For the first time in 54 years, the Los Angeles Boat Show is taking its boats to the water at its new show location – Marina del Rey! In the past, you could only view the spectacular sailboats and yachts at the L.A. Convention Center in Downtown L.A., but now you get the chance to see what these million dollar beauties look like in the water. If you are looking for a new marine hobby, a new vessel to sail around the world in or just a fun day out, hop on your bike and cycle over to Burton Chace Park this weekend. From Thursday to Sunday, the show will feature sailboats, ski boats, jet skis, sports fishing vessels, canoes, kayaks, yachts, cabin cruisers and so much more. At the new Marina del Rey location, attendees can check out on-board tours as well as “test drives.”
