Living in Marina del Rey means we’ve all had a few star-struck moments now and again, but from May 18th until the 20th, those star-struck feelings will reach galactic new heights— because ET is coming to town! Ok, not the cute little ET that phones home. We’re talking about ET-94 — a NASA External Tank that was constructed for the space shuttle Columbia! This giant component of the shuttle has traveled all the way across the Panama Canal and is on its way to the California Science Center’s Samuel Oschin Air & Space Center to be on display as part of the complete shuttle stack. Before it arrives there, though — it’s coming to Marina del Rey!

As if there aren’t enough cool things happening in Marina del Rey, we have one more sweet option to add to the paradise pile — a large scale, tech-modern art exhibition at the Ritz Carlton. Salon D’Art is partnering with the hotel to put on this nifty event, and the really great thing (aside from the art, of course) is the technology they’re using to make it extra special. When you visit the exhibit, you can enjoy guideless, “beacon-activated” tours through your iPhone or iPad, which translates into downloading a free app on your Apple device (or you can check out an iPad at the Ritz Carlton’s concierge desk). When you stand in front of each piece of artwork, the app senses where you are and delivers facts about that piece, plus purchasing details. Kind of ingenious, isn’t it?

August has arrived and for one big slice of the Marina del Rey population, that means one thing: Golf, golf and more golf. Afterall, it is National Golf Month, which unofficially means you have every excuse to throw responsibility to the wind and play those 18 holes whenever and wherever you want. Of course, you probably can’t jet to Pebble Beach on your lunch hour, but trust us, there are enough golfing options around town to soothe your golf cravings, brush up on your game, and celebrate National Golf Month like the star you are.
Here are four spots to check out that are just a handful of miles from our Marina paradise — take a look and by all means, go golf!

This Sunday is Father’s Day in Marina del Rey, and that means it’s time to show the dads in our lives that we think they’re the coolest, hippest, savviest, greatest pops in the universe — and there’s one great way to do that (aside from being extra sweet for the day)… and that’s giving him a super excellent gift.
Since tech gadgets hopelessly fascinate most modern dads, that’s a winning category to explore for sure. But which tech-inspired gift is right for your dad? Well, we scoured the web on your behalf to find the newest, most innovative presents out there. And we came across some really sweet finds.

Not only is it St. Patrick’s Day today, but we are also officially only three days away from the first day of spring! Yep, at exactly 3:45 pm on March 20th, the sun crosses the celestial equator on its way to the ecliptic and we have (allegedly have) exactly 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night— and that my friends is what we call the Spring Equinox. That information would be more exciting if the super cool solar eclipse was visible from Marina del Rey, but sadly, we’d have to travel to London to catch a good view in person. However, thanks to the magic of technology, we can still witness the celestial excitement by watching it unfold online at Space.com. There’s also a nifty Day and Night iPhone App that might come in handy that day.
Now that we’ve had our equinox lesson for the year, let’s think about how we should ring in the first weekend of spring! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
