The countdown to mariachis, margaritas and major fun is underway with Cinco de Mayo less than two weeks away! Plans are in the works all around Marina del Rey to celebrate the best of our Mexican-American culture—and if you love a good time, start mapping out your May 5th fiesta strategy right now. Here are some of your best Cinco de Mayo bets in Marina del Rey (and our neighboring towns!).

Hop on your bike and ride up the strand to see the colorful  Cinco de Mayo Parade, featuring dancers from the Ballet Folklorico Flor de Mayo, Aztec dancers, Charro Mariachi Band, the Venice High School Band, classic cars, and more. The fun will keep going until 6 pm at Oakwood Park (767 California Ave, Venice) where families can enjoy a lively Cinco de Mayo festival with music from Balance, tons of great Mexican food, piñatas, face painting, arts & crafts for kids, raffles, and a whole lot more.

As always, Baja Cantina will be pulling out all the stops for their signature Cinco de Mayo celebration! Their outdoor lot will be cordoned off all day long, offering sombrero-loving partiers access to outdoor bars with beer and margarita specials, great live bands, and of course, yummy Mexican food options. With three days of Cinco del Mayo on El Torito’s calendar, you can bet the scene will be the embodiment of FIESTA. The fun starts on Thursday and runs through Saturday with great specials on select food, beer, margaritas, tequila and other goodies. La Cabana in Venice is another outstanding option for serious Cinco de Mayo celebrators! Their famed rooftop Mariachis will be entertaining the masses from 6 pm to 8 pm, and then from 8 pm to 10 pm, they continue the strolling and strumming in-house. Get there early to land a table and enjoy some awesome food, plus unbeatable drink specials, including $8 House Margaritas, $12 Double Margaritas, $5 Dos Equis on tap, and $6 Patrón Silver Tequila shots. Sol restaurant has an “All Day Fiesta” happening on May 5thso if you’re craving a Baja-style Cinco de Mayo—make a reservation pronto! The restaurant will feature drink specials, live music and $3 tacos, plus a full menu of temptations that include the seriously addictive grilled sweet corn, as well as spicy tofu tacos (so good!) and their yummy shrimp taco dorado.

There’s no way we can highlight Cinco de Mayo without making mention of Casa Sanchez—yeah, it’s a short drive from the Marina, but the atmosphere is so authentic and fun, it’s totally worth it. Their celebration starts at noon with a Happy Hour until 5 pm (featuring favorites like guacamole, tacos, quesadillas, margaritas, and cerveza at great prices), followed by Tequila Tasting from 5 pm to 11:59 pm.
