ALL EYES ON FALL — 4 THINGS TO ADD TO YOUR MARINA DEL REY CALENDAR

Welcome to autumn in Marina del Rey! Sure, it may look a lot like summer — but when it comes to fun, there’s a fresh new agenda in the air. We’re not saying you can’t still hit Mother’s Beach, do some SUP-style downward facing dog and snack on some premium food truck cuisine, however — we highly recommend making room on your calendar because there are some very cool fall to-dos coming our way in and around Marina del Rey.

1. WEEKEND CONCERTS AT FISHERMAN’S VILLAGE

The Summer Concert Series at Burton Chace Park may have wrapped up at the end of August — but you can still catch free afternoon concerts at Fisherman’s Village through September. This weekend, you’ll definitely want to check it out (especially if you feel like grooving!) because R&B band Blue Breeze plays on Saturday and 2 Azz 1’s jazz-funk will fill the air on Sunday. It’s a friendly, fun way to spend the afternoon so bring family, friends and dancing partners to enjoy a fab day at our very own Fisherman’s Village. Check out this month’s full calendar here.

2. ABBOT KINNEY FESTIVAL

The 33rd annual Abbot Kinney Festival is a grand way to rock the start of autumn, and since it’s a hop, skip and a jump from the Marina — it’s incredibly convenient. The event runs from 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday, September 24th and is a great choice if you have kids in your life. Check this out — there’s a family parade kicking off the festival (starting on California Ave. at 9:45 am); the KIDSQUAD-area with games and rides like a Ferris wheel, bouncy slides, treasure hunts, rock climbing and more; plus, four music stages (including the KIDSQUAD stage); food trucks and booths; and three beer gardens for the grown-ups. It’s free to attend but wristbands are available to purchase for certain attractions.

  • Purchase a standard beer garden wristband for $5 per person
  • Treat the kids to Unlimited Fun wristbands for $50 beforehand or $100 at the festival. Perks include no waiting in line and unlimited access to rides and activities.

3. FRONT PORCH CINEMA

Remember those awesome open-air summer movies at Burton Chace Park? Well, the Santa Monica Pier is hosting their own FREE movie series — Front Porch Cinema. For one month, (starting September 29th), you can head up the beach every Friday to chill by the water and enjoy yummy food, themed drinks in the Cinema lounge, activities for the kids, and some of the best family-friendly movies ever — including the award-winning “LA LA Land,” which will kick off the series. Movies start at 7:30 pm but you can get there earlier to grab a prime viewing spot!

4. THE MARINA DEL REY FILM FESTIVAL®

The Marina del Rey Film Festival® comes to the AMC Classic Marina Marketplace 6 for one week beginning October 2nd — and if you’re a film buff, this is obviously a can’t-miss event. It’s your chance to see an array of indie films by some of the most exciting up-and-coming film makers out there. The full schedule hasn’t been released yet but a quick Twitter peek revealed a couple of interesting accepted shorts — “A Mother’s Love” by Robert Hensley and “ExtraMaritals” by Sharieff Walters. Visit marinadelreyfilmfestival.com for ticket information and schedule updates.
