GIVE INTO TEMPTATION: CELEBRATE MARDI GRAS/FAT TUESDAY/PAZCKI DAY IN MARINA DEL REY

So, a lot of you might have spent the weekend celebrating a New Orleans-style Mardi Gras with beads, drinks, music and zany costumes. And while that was certainly some big fun, you may have missed a little something. Ready for this? “Mardi Gras” actually means “Fat Tuesday” in French! And guess what today is? Yep, it’s Tuesday—FAT TUESDAY to be exact. Which means you have a little more celebrating to do, folks. Not in the form of beads and cocktails, but in the form of decadent feasting!

Now, we must remind you that the aforementioned Fat Tuesday (alternatively known as Pączki Day–see below) also falls in the middle of American Heart Month, so we’ll stress “moderation” on the feasting suggestion. However, having that one goodie that you’ve been dreaming about all year is totally encouraged today.

So, allow us to be the voice of temptation and highlight just some of the most decadent treats you can, well… treat yourself to in Marina del Rey. Enjoy…and remember, you can just do an extra hour of Pilates tomorrow. Happy Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/Pączki Day!

SWEET TEMPTATIONS

MAKE THE PĄCZKI (Puunch-Kee) HAPPEN

These decadently filled Polish-style donuts are the consummate Fat Tuesday must-have and while they’re similar to regular donuts, they have a few standout traits. They’re super rich, have a touch of grain alcohol in them (which keeps the pastry from soaking up too much fryer oil) and are typically stuffed with fillings like lemon, raspberry, custard, blueberry and other delightful flavors. The problem is—they’re nearly impossible to find on the Westside (we called, we tried!). So here are your choices—1) Make your own and impress everyone you know; 2) Drive all the way out to Los Feliz to have an incredible Ponchik (basically the same as a pączki) at Papillon International Bakery ; or 3) Go to your fave donut shop, get a stuffed donut (like Blue Star’s Meyer Lemon & Key Lime Curd) and just pretend it’s a paczki.

GO FOR THAT SLICE OF CHEESECAKE FACTORY CHEESECAKE

You’ve thought about it. You want it. Just go to Cheesecake Factory and order that one particular cheesecake that you’ve actually had dreams about. You know, the Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Galore™ one? Or that ridiculous Reese’s® Peanutbutter Chocolate Cake Cheesecake? And yes, you can split it with someone if you must.

GET A SLAB OF THE COLD STONE

Cold Stone Creamery is calling—and today, you can answer with zero hesitation. Create your own creamy dreamy concoction and enjoy. You want to add Heath® bars AND Kit Kat® pieces to your cake batter ice cream? No judgement here—only admiration! By the way, plant-based friends, you can treat yourself too because Cold Stone has some awesome dairy free sorbet! Just ask what toppings are vegan-friendly.

ENTRÉE INDULGENCES

SAY YES TO TONY P’S FISH AND CHIPS

Deep fried fish, French fries and creamy cole slaw. How many times have you longingly looked at that item on Tony P’s menu? Be honest now. Yep, we thought so. Well today, Fat Tuesday, you have our permission to go for it. Get a table outside, order a great beer like their new Maharaja option, and order that Fish and Chips. You’ll have the happiest tummy in town.

PASTA OUT AT C&O TRATTORIA

We also highly recommend pasta—because on Fat Tuesday in Marina del Rey, poor shamed gluten has a get out of jail free card. C&O Trattoria is the perfect spot to hit up for dinner tonight, where you can feast on rich, filling, amazing dishes like their Shrimp Fettuccini Alfredo, Four Cheese Lobster Mac or one of their hearty Lasagna options. Oh, and don’t forget the endless garlic knots they put on the table—you get to eat those, too. Again—Pilates, Barre classes, gyms…all open tomorrow so don’t sweat the calories until then!

Have we convinced you to celebrate the real Mardi Gras today? Let us know if you’re indulging in the decadence around Marina del Rey!
