Boaters from Marina del Rey’s Esprit Marina and Marina Harbor Anchorage Descended on Catalina — and It Was Big Fun.

Blindfolded Kayak Race

Boating in Marina del Rey is one of those activities that never, ever gets old. Afterall, we have a gorgeous channel to cruise, beautiful docking options like Marina Harbor Anchorage and Esprit Marina, and boater-exclusive happenings that are just plain cooler than your average landlubber-soirée.

In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, boaters from Marina Harbor and Esprit were invited to bring some guests and indulge in quite a shindig out on Catalina Island — and let us just say, it was epic fun.

Kayak on Beach

Approximately 175 people hopped on their vessels (about 60 boats from both anchorages) and met up in the charming, beautiful village of Two Harbors in Catalina for a full weekend of festivities. We’re talking about great food, music, a bonfire…well here’s the full run-down to get your envy brewing: Friday night launched the trip with a meet-and-greet cocktail party. Then Saturday, all of the boaters, their guests, kids, and dogs headed to the beach for a delish catered lunch barbecue, plus drinks, and games. (It was serious hilarity: Everyone was having a blast playing badminton, competing in a beanbag toss, and taking part in a zany blindfolded kayak race.)

Later that night, the crowd kicked back and listened to some amazing Island-Reggae live music by “Headshine,” enjoyed a blazing bonfire, indulged in marshmallow roasting and s’mores decadence, and sipped a few cocktails by the water.

Sounds like one of the coolest summer camps ever, doesn’t it? We know what you’re thinking — “I need a boat!”

If you do snag yourself a sweet watercraft for sailing into the sunset, remember to check out two of the best anchorages in the Marina — especially if you want to be at the next awesome weekend getaway. Both Marina Harbor and Esprit have stellar locations, plus they’re designed with state-of-the-art floating docks and come with premier services like security patrol, fitness centers, restrooms and showers, and so much more.

If you’re interested, you can schedule a tour by visiting the Marina Harbor or Esprit websites. If you’re not ready for Skipper duty, just go out and make yourself a BFF boating pal! Either way — get in on the boating life, mates.
