Marina Holiday Spotlight: 6 Spots to Indulge in National Margarita Day February 22nd!

We’ve had Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, and a whole bunch of quirky little holidays come and go this month (Bubble Gum Day was February 2nd!)—but you may not know that one of the most festive holidays of the year is still on the way. Clear your after-work schedule on Thursday (February 22nd) because National Margarita Day is on the agenda! Thanks to a very enthusiastic Margarita connoisseur named Todd McCalla (originator of NMD)—we can officially raise our salt-rimmed glasses in celebration of this classic 2:1:1 cocktail. (For the non-bartenders of the world, 2:1:1 is the precise ratio of some of the best classic cocktails ever. In the margarita’s case—three parts tequila/one part triple sec/one part lime juice.)

Such an easy recipe, right? Yet, many of us know from experience that not every margarita is created equal. Luckily, the Marina del Rey area (as well as our neighboring towns) have some great restaurants with equally great bartenders—and yes, they know how to mix a darn good drink. So, get ready to order up the margarita of your dreams because the six fine establishments below will definitely deliver the goods.

Enjoy your Margarita Day, everyone! P.S. Be safe and drink responsibly.

El Torito
13715 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey

MUST-TRY: The Cadillac Margarita— a blend of 1800® Reposado tequila, triple sec and sweet & sour, served with a shot of Cointreau Noir on the side. The Strawberry Cadillac Margarita is another winner, made with George Clooney and Randy Gerber’s famed Casamigos Blanco tequila.

Tony P’s Tavern
4445 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey

MUST-TRY: Try their awesomely mixed, spicy jalapeño-lime margarita (as long as your taste buds can handle the kick!). Another great one is the divine Mama’s Boy with a blue agave tequila infused with fresh fruit and a chili blend, plus pineapple juice, lime juice and a chili salted rim. It’s a margarita holiday, you may as well be adventurous!

1416 4th St., Santa Monica

MUST-TRY: The Spicy Cucumber Margarita with Cazadores® silver tequila and jalapeño purée is a seriously outstanding choice. If you want to go more conventional, get their Mercado Margarita with Sauza® Gold (flavored with a hint of fresh agave and vanilla), triple sec and fresh sour.

P.S. If they happen to have the Blood Orange Margarita as a special Thursday night—get it… yummy with a capital Y.

La Cabaña Restaurant
738 Rose Ave., Venice

MUST-TRY: The Cabana’s original margarita is a total champion, featuring three parts Herradura® silver to one part Cointreau and one part fresh lime juice. Yep, it’s a little twist on the 2:1:1 and it goes for a cool $20.  If you don’t want to break the bank, you can still indulge, just go for the single House Margarita—straight forward, refreshing and only $10!

13455 W. Maxella Ave., Marina del Rey

MUST-TRY: Want to drink summer in a glass? The Salted Watermelon Margarita is definitely your pick with Jimador® silver, Cointreau, citrus agave, fresh watermelon juice and fresh lime. For those (kind of) watching their calorie intake, the Skinny Margarita is the obvious choice—it’s a blend of El Jimador® silver tequila, citrus agave and fresh lime juice. Simplicity can be grand.

Casablanca Restaurant
220 Lincoln Blvd., Venice, CA

MUST-TRY: Now what would Bogart try? We think he’d go classy with the Tequila Express tableside service (pick your tequila and watch a genius mixologist do his margarita magic). Then again, he may just order his namesake: the Bogart Margarita. Afterall, it’s perfectly prepared with Arette® silver tequila and Cointreau. And as you raise your glass, remember to roll out the perfect toast: “Here’s lookin’ at you, kid.”

Are you a margarita lover? If you answer with a resounding YES, tell us where you’ll be celebrating National Margarita Day!
