YOUR MARINA-STYLE MOTHER’S DAY GUIDE TO FUN

Mother’s Day is May 13th, Marina del Rey friends! And whether you’re a mom, a pet-mom or just someone with the best mom ever, a grand celebration should definitely be on your agenda. You have exactly 12 days until the holiday is here, which means there’s plenty of time to plan an amazing outing for the incredible mom in your life—complete with a show-stopping gift.

Ready for some awesome gift suggestions? (Hint…some just involve quality time!) We thought so. Check out these ideas—and remember moms out there: there’s no crime in treating yourself too!

GIVE A MANI PEDI TREAT

There are some amazing pampering destinations in Marina del Rey, so take advantage and treat mom (or yourself) to a great mani/pedi! Book the Nailbox’s fabulous Spatastic package for $80 or go to Ocean Nail Spa for a luxurious nail treatment, complete with their amazing massaging chairs. You can also head to Venice’s Marina Nail Spa to try an SNS nail treatment (packed with vitamins and minerals that actually strengthen your nails) or their Deluxe package that comes with a 15-minute hot stone foot massage.

DAZZLE WITH A BOUQUET

Flowers are kind of the consummate Mother’s Day gift — and that’s probably because getting a big, gorgeous bouquet of blooms instantly makes you feel like the star of the day. Call Heather’s Flowersfor a breathtaking floral arrangement like the Gorgeous Orchids or traditional rosesMarina del Rey Florist is another local shop with phenomenal bouquet options, including gorgeous, springtime tulips!

MAKE HER A GIFT BASKET

A homemade gift basket can be unique, personable and memorable—especially when it’s delivered to moms out of town. Start with a cute decorative box from a craft store like Michael’s and fill it with Marina-style goodies, like a box of See’s chocolates, a bag of Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s Mocha Java, a dozen of Susie Cakes’s daisy-shaped frosted sugar cookies and a Spa Finder gift card. Then top it all off with a corked bottle of Mother’s Beach sand (for the out-of-towners). Kinda cute, right?

COOK BRUNCH

There will be plenty of brunching-out options happening on Mother’s Day (stay tuned for next week’s blog to cover that!), but treating mom to a home-cooked brunch…well, that’s something extra special. Create an amazing menu with all of her favorites! Think mimosas or a refreshing Peach Ginger Bellini as a brunch cocktail, followed by a yummy spinach quiche (or a healthier, also yummy vegan version), blueberry pancakes (gluten-free version here) or fresh-baked muffins and a giant fruit salad (with goodies from the Marina del Rey Farmers Market).

GET CREATIVE TOGETHER

Take your mother or mom-friends out for a bonding pottery day at Color Me Mine for Mother’s Day. Sunday studio hours are noon to 7 pm. PS They even have a special Muffins with Mom promotion that weekend so call for more details (310.393.0069).

Another creative idea? Cooking class! Marina del Rey’s Cook Drop has an array of classes to sign up for and the cost is $125 (with limited space available). Their classes vary (i.e. pasta making, vegetarian meals, sushi, etc.) so check out the latest schedule to see what’s available Mother’s Day weekend. If you want to set up a personal cooking class, you can also send inquiries to cookdrop@thecookdrop.com.

GET ACTIVE TOGETHER

Invite your mom out for a bike ride, yoga class, kayak outing or another fun activity for the day. Getting those endorphins going together is so bonding and will definitely set the tone for an amazing Mother’s Day.

Is your mind whirring with Mother’s Day gift and outing ideas? Good! Hope she (or you!) have the best Mother’s Day ever. P.S. Make sure to check back next week for the best M-Day brunch spots in Marina del Rey!
