YOUR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND GUIDE: MARINA DEL REY + BEYOND

The Memorial Day holiday is just around the corner (May 25 to 28!). And if you’re not one of the 3 million+ Angelenos skedaddling out of town for that long, wonderful weekend, chances are you’re in the market for some great local happenings. Well look no further, friends—because we’ve got your fun right here. From pool parties and cruises to family festivals and more, your (unofficial) start of summer is poised for greatness this year.

Hornblower Memorial Day Cruises
13755 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey

When it comes to memorable, gorgeous holiday outings, you can’t beat a Hornblower Cruise—so definitely check out their awesome array of Memorial Day Cruises. Reserve your private table for their brunch or dinner cruises during the long weekend and you’ll enjoy a fun-filled atmosphere with fabulous food (brunch buffet or four-course dinner), champagne, music and more, including those beautiful harbor views.

Book now because spots are filling up fast (Saturday’s Champagne Brunch Cruise is already sold out!). Visit their website for reservations, menu samples and cruise times!

Marina del Rey Hotel’s Sunday Boat House
13534 Bali Way, Marina del Rey

The best pool party tradition in town kicks off May 27th at the amazing Marina del Rey Hotel. The season’s inaugural event should be downright epic with great DJs, special guests, poolside menus from SALT, and of course, access to that sparkling blue pool. As always, they also have a themed event in the works—so come ready for big Sunday fun. Remember, 21+ over only!

P.S. To score a seat, get there early or make advanced reservations for cabana rentals and VIP lounge seating.

Fiesta Hermosa
Downtown Hermosa Beach

Sure, it’s a little bit of a drive, but for a family-style celebration, you’ve got to check out Fiesta Hermosa in South Bay. The bi-annual festival runs Memorial Weekend (Saturday through Monday) from 10am to 6pm and features an impressive array of arts & crafts booths; an amazing Food Court with a horde of different options (Thai, Greek, Mexican, and more, plus carnival faves like cotton candy and caramel apples); two stages with great bands performing; and a Charity Beer & Wine Garden that has town “celebrities” serving up the goods. The kiddos in your life will also have a blast with face painters and games, plus activities and rides at the Fiesta’s Kiddie Carnival.

Venice Muscle Beach International Classic
1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice

What better way to welcome the unofficial start of summer than zooming up to Venice Beach for the Muscle Beach International Classic. The always-entertaining competition falls into the “must-go at least once” category because it’s so classically Muscle Beach! You’ll see poses, struts, flexes and pure muscle as men and women vie for titles in bodybuilding, physique, couples, vintage swimsuits (think old-school pin-ups like Betty Grable) and more. Prejudging starts at 10am and Finals begin at 1pm.

Killer Rides at Killer Shrimp
4211 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey

If classic cars, sleek hotrods, cool muscle cars, trucks and motorcycles get your heart thumping, then you’re in for a big-time treat Memorial Weekend. Why? Because Killer Shrimp’s 7thAnnual Killer Rides is back that Sunday, May 27th from 10am to 1pm. Bring the whole family up to the restaurant’s Marina del Rey location for music, excellent food, and an array of envy-inducing vehicles. Also, make sure to stick around to see who wins the coveted Killer Rides awards.

What will you be doing during your long Memorial Day Weekend? Brunching out? SUPing on the harbor? Taking the kids to Mother’s Beach? Or hitting up one of the grand happenings we listed above? That’s the beauty of our little paradise—the options are endless! Let us know your plans—we’re definitely interested.
