Our favorite legitimate play hooky day (aka: LABOR DAY!) is Monday, September 3, marking this year’s grand finale of another standout summer. That means from September 1st through the 3rd, your one and only responsibility is to live it up summer-style and enjoy the heck out of your long weekend. When you live in and around Marina del Rey, making that happen is easy as pie, since our whole area is pretty much built for outdoor fun. So, what are your options? Brace yourself…because both in town and out, there are a whole lot of them.

2. Marina del Rey Hotel’s FINAL Sunday Boathouse

If you love a great pool party, then you don’t want to miss the Marina del Rey Hotel’s FINAL Sunday Boathouse of the season. You know the drill—21 + over, fun themes, awesome DJs, great cocktails, a menu filled with yummies from SALT, and tons of happy, smiling revelers. If you want to try to secure a luxury cabana, call 310.301.1000 and make your reservation early!

3. Labor Day Party at the Viceroy Santa Monica

Want to partake in two happening pool to-dos in a row? Then hit the MDRH’s Boathouse on Sunday and then go to Santa Monica on Monday for the 3rd Annual Labor Day Pool Party at the Viceroy! Hosted by Three Day Rule, the now legendary party (typically bringing out about 500 people) starts with a snazzy Red Carpet entry, followed by hours of fun with DJs, a BBQ, lots of beach balls bouncing around, and of course, the mandatory swan floats. They’ll even have a free Braid Bar from beGlammed to make sure your Labor Day hair is looking pool party fine. Advanced tickets are $10 (plus a $1.54 fee), regularly priced tickets are $15 (plus a $1.82 fee), and late registration tickets are $20 (plus a $2.09 fee)

4. Burton Chace Park Free Dance Jam & Concert

The last of the season’s free summer concerts is Saturday, September 1st at Burton Chace Park. Grammy® Award Winning band, La Santa Cecilia, performs from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, and if you arrive early enough (3 pm to be exact), you can get into the Latin groove with all-age Salsa lessons!

5. Fiesta Hermosa

The always fun Fiesta Hermosa in South Bay is an amazing Labor Day Weekend tradition, especially for those looking for a great family-friendly experience. The festival lasts throughout the whole long weekend (10 am to 6 pm—Saturday, Sunday and Monday) right in downtown Hermosa Beach on Pier Plaza. Since it’s a bit of a distance from the Marina, driving is in an option but comes with one problem…parking. However, you can always Uber or Lyft to the event, or use their convenient, free Shuttle Buses, which pick you up from the SW corner of Aviation Blvd. and 33rd street in Manhattan Beach. (P.S. you could also ride your bike if you’re feeling energetic! They even offer free bike parking in a guarded lot on the sand near the pier in Hermosa.)

Highlights of the free-to-attend three-day fiesta include live music, a charity beer & wine garden, lots of arts & crafts booths, carnival rides for kids, a food court and much more.

There you go…five sensational options for an epic long weekend. Tell us, are you ready for the fun? Let us know your plans!
