Vintage Cool: Old Fashioned Day at the Park Sails into Marina del Rey

There’s something about vintage boats and classic cars that evoke images of pure cool. Remember when George and Amal Clooney dazzled the world in that vintage-inspired wooden water taxi (aptly named Amore)? Or when Steve McQueen catapulted through San Francisco in that sweet 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in “Bullitt”? Yes, that’s what we’re talking about—and guess what? On Sunday, July 29th, the vintage cool is coming to Marina del Rey’s Burton Chace Park with the 42nd annual Old Fashioned Day at the Park event.

Add it to your must-go list right now…and get ready to spend a spectacular Sunday touring gorgeously restored classic yachts and cars from the 1920s, ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s. The fun is brought to you by the Classic Yacht Association, which has been around since 1969 and is dedicated to preserving, maintaining and promoting classic “pleasure crafts.” Check it out between 10am and 3 pm on July 29th because these yachts and vehicles are definitely something to behold.

What Else Is on the Fun Calendar?

There’s a lot of good stuff happening in the days leading up to Old Fashioned Day at the Park too…so get your plans in order. You have a busy week ahead, people!

Leonard Bernstein at 100 is the featured symphonic concert at the Marina del Rey Summer Concert Series on Thursday, July 26th—celebrating what would be the genius composer/conductor/musician’s 100th birthday. Should be pretty amazing. (Plus, it’s free!)

On Saturday, July 28th, you’ll want to scoot up to Venice for day one of the Venice Beach Festival where you can shop the fun and funky vendor booths, chow down on great food and see some awesome live performances on the festival stage.

Saturday night at 8 pm sharp, zip back down to Burton Chace Park for an outdoor screening of the Swayze/Grey classic “Dirty Dancing.” Say it loud and proud, everyone…“nobody puts baby in the corner!”

Stick around town this week for some of the best fun in the area. (Especially if beautifully restored classic yachts–and cars–float your boat so to speak.) Will we see you at Burton Chace Park this weekend? How about the Venice Beach Fest? Let us know your plans!
