WEEKEND CRUISING: YOUR BEST BOATING EXCURSIONS IN MARINA DEL REY

The last couple weeks have been a wee bit cool on our side of town, and while it’s still gorgeous as ever—it’s been feeling less like a west coast spring and more like a Midwest autumn. Well, this week, the tides are turning, people. We’re soaring into some perfect 70s temps…and we think that’s the perfect excuse for a sunshine celebration this weekend. What do we have in mind? Boating, of course! And in Marina del Rey, there are some outstanding opportunities available to do it up right.

Splurge on a Yacht Charter
Duchess Yacht: 14120 Tahiti Way, Marina del Rey
Paradise Bound: 4375 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey

If you really want to treat yourself like royalty for the day (and celebrate the sunshine), splurge on a yacht for the day with friends. Marina del Rey has premium charter services like The Duchess Yacht Charters (featuring a luxurious 63-foot yacht plus captain and crew!). They have a three-hour Harbor Cruise that is perfect for the weekend, and if you have three pals to accompany you, the cost would only be $100 per person. Not bad for a day of lavish cruising. Paradise Bound Yacht Charters is another favorite in Marina del Rey, and right now, they have some great specials like a $55 per hour/per person two-hour charter on their 42-foot Silver Eagle Sailing Yacht (with Captain Alex). They also offer 20% off for active duty and retired military.

Get Your Brazil-Fill on the Taste of Brazil Festival Cruise
Dock 52, 13552 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey

Reserve your spot on the awesome Taste of Brazil cruise on Saturday, April 14th. We suggest trying to nab a reservation for the first booking at 2 pm (it’ll be chiller for the later cruise) so you can enjoy the sunshine and the fabulous views. Tickets are $69.95 per person and include a two-hour cruise along the harbor, plus Brazilian music, tasty beverages, and an authentic Brazilian dinner. Menu highlights include Lemon Garlic Flank Steak, Brazilian Style Grilled Chicken, the Feijoada-Brazilian national dish (a rich stew), and numerous side dishes ranging from kale-mango salad, rice and artichoke hearts to an assortment of cheese, fruit and more. Topping off the dinner will be a decadent cheese cake and traditional Brazilian pudding.

Book a Hornblower Jazz Champagne Brunch Cruise
13755 Fiji Way. Marina del Rey

Hornblower’s brunch cruises are divine, and yes, they sell out fast! (Reserve your tickets asap if you want to hit the water on Sunday…Saturday the 14th is already booked solid.) So, here’s the scoop in case you’re a Hornblower newbie—you step aboard at 11:30 am sharp and at noon, your yacht departs for a two-hour, jazz-filled cruise around the gorgeous Marina harbor. There will be free-flowing champagne, a grand brunch buffet with all of your favorites (French crepes, cinnamon swirl French Toast, quiche, seafood and much more), and a performance by amazing guitarist Mat Gurman with KJAZZ DJ Bubba Jackson on hosting duties. Two words for you: Perfect Sunday. Tickets are $75 per adult/$45 per child.

Indulge in Whale Watching
MDR Whale Watching: 13552 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey

Whale watching is one of those glorious nature outings you always think about but still haven’t done, right? Well hop-to and make it happen this weekend! Marina del Rey Whale Watching (family run through Marina del Rey Sport Fishing) has two cruises on both Saturday and Sunday—and either day, you’re sure to see some incredible sights.  The California Gray Whales are still passing through our waters, plus there are always dolphins and porpoises frolicking, enormous sea turtles swimming, seals lounging and so many other incredible sea creatures lolling about. Book now—tickets are just $35 for adults and $15 for kids… and that’s for a three-hour tour!
