The Week’s Best Bets for Fun In and Around Marina del Rey

This week is chock full of good stuff happening in both Marina del Rey and our neighboring towns! So we feel it’s our fun patrol duty to shine a spotlight on your most tantalizing options. Ready to make the memories happen? Grab your besties, your kids, your friends or just yourself—and enjoy some awesome to-do’s in your favorite coastal area. Here are the best bets for first-week-of-October fun!

National Taco Day is this Thursday (October 4th) so obviously, a taco run is a must. Marina del Rey has great Mexican restaurants all around town so start considering your choices now! Maybe go to El Torito for their classic Street Taco Trio or try Baja Cantina’s fresh fish tacos. You could also grab quick and yummy tacos at Baja Fresh or—for some plant-based goodness—hit up Venice’s Tocaya Organica for their Barrio Style Taco with vegan picadillo and vegan chipotle Jack (plus avocado, roasted tomato salsa, diced red onion and cilantro).

If you read our last blog post, you know that Oktoberfest is majorly underway, and a great way to celebrate is out on the water on Hornblower’s Brews & Brats! After grabbing a taco for lunch on Thursday (see above!), come aboard a gorgeous Hornblower yacht for a two-hour scenic cruise, some scrumptious Bavarian-style appetizers and a cash bar featuring Ayinger Oktoberfest beer. The price per person is just $37 (plus tax and fees) and it sails from 6 pm to 8 pm. (PS Brews & Brats is also happening tomorrow—Wednesday!) Book online now.

On Sunday, October 7th, downtown Santa Monica transforms some of its busiest streets into car-free zones from 10 am to 4 pm. The open-street event gives people miles of space to stroll, bike and roll through town while enjoying great food, live music and world-class art. So get on your bike, hop on your wheels or just stroll up to Santa Monica for a few hours of traffic-free fun. Car-free streets include Colorado Ave. from 4th to Ocean; Ocean Ave from Colorado Blvd to Wilshire; and Main Street up to Marine.

We’ve all heard of the famed Venice Film Festival (the oldest film fest in the world!). But OUR next-door-neighbor Venice also has a pretty nifty festival going on, aptly named “The Other Venice Film Festival”—and it happens to be this weekend (October 5th to 7th). The Opening Night Garden Screening gets things kicked off on Friday (tickets are $40) with a red-carpet entrance, cocktail party, live music, art, and the event’s first film screening—a thriller called “The Guest House.” If you love movies, music and art—this is the place to be. Location: Beyond Baroque, 681 Venice Boulevard

If you’re loving the festival fever going on around West LA, then by all means, trek over to Culver City for Saturday’s Art Walk and Roll Festival. Between 12 pm and 6 pm on Saturday, the Arts District streets will be closed on Washington Blvd between McManus and Sherborne for a full day of culture-rich fun. The free event will have artists, “interactive art experiences,” live music, food trucks, activities for kids, a popup marketplace, and a lot more. LA CoMotion will also be onsite to let you try out the newest electric scooters and electric bikes on their test track.

There’s so much happening all around us this week—are you going to partake? Let us know where you’re going for the fun!
